„In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.“ – Carl Gustav Jung

My paintings evolve through a playful process of intuition and experimentation; the resulting chaos is ultimately tamed by the principles of pictorial design. Random elements are expressed in color and texture and become part of the story being told. I am inspired by the forms and colors of nature, pictorially abstracted and transformed into soul landscapes and moods. Abstraction and alienation obscure certainties, arouse curiosity, generate emotions and fantasies, challenge engagement and raise questions. My paintings are created in many individual layers, it is a continuous construction and deconstruction. Paint or other materials are applied and blurred with palette knife and brush, lines and shapes are created in quick gestures, sharp scratches leave traces and reveal hidden things. The many facets of interpersonal encounters and unconscious processes are also a constant source of inspiration for me. These are particularly expressed in my abstract paintings, which in their complexity achieve a depth that encourages us to look closely and reflect. The inner world that experiences a subjective reality in the eye of the beholder.

Biography

Hilla Hölter was born in Soest/Westphalia and was very strongly shaped by the rural area in which she grew up. Although she had a great interest in painting from an early age, her path led her to study psychology in Berlin in 1984. She then trained as a Jungian psychoanalyst and has been working as a psychological psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in her own practice in Berlin since 2000. This work continues to be an important and very satisfying part of her life and her commitment in this area left her little time for artistic activities for a long time. During the pandemic, when there was suddenly „more time“, her creative voice came to the fore and wanted to be lived. Accordingly, she took online courses and workshops. Since then, painting and artistic creation have been an essential part of her life, which is filled with great dedication.
